Maya Acupuncture: Focus

Dr. Maya offers a gentle yet thorough approach to Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, influenced by her extensive training in California and China.  She usually addresses any acute issues, and also works on underlying constitutional imbalances.  Acupuncture can be very beneficial in balancing the nervous system, and strengthening vital energy, as well as the body’s organs.

Her specialties include musculoskeletal pain relief, women’s health, prenatal & postpartum care, as well as depression and anxiety.  She also commonly treats digestive disorders, respiratory issues, fatigue and insomnia.

She also offers Five Element Acupuncture, which can be very helpful in cases of anxiety, grief or other emotional imbalances.

Functonal-Medicine

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a personalized and comprehensive approach to healthcare, focusing on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness, rather than just treating symptoms.  It considers the complex interactions between internal biology, genetics, diet, lifestyle, and the environment that may contribute to health issues.  It thus views the body as a complex network of interconnected systems.  Our intention is therefore to create a customized and integrative treatment plan addressing your specific heath imbalances.

Chinese and Functional Medicine can address the same health issues.

Dr. Maya’s approach to Functional Medicine is influenced by almost 20 years of clinical practice as an acupuncturist and herbalist.  After a thorough review of an initial intake form, an environmental questionnaire, as well as past and present medical records, additional labs may be ordered if necessary.  Then, to address identified imbalances, supplements and/or Chinese herbs will be prescribed, accompanied by lifestyle and nutritional recommendations.
