Spring Lifestyle Strategies

Spring Lifestyle Strategies According to Chinese Medicine

Spring is the time for rebirth, growth, and movement. It is associated with the Wood element, and the Liver and Gallbladder organ systems..

The Liver governs the smooth flow of Qi (Vital Energy) in the body. When the Liver meridian is congested or blocked, it can manifest as low energy, fatigue, irritability, frustration, depression, and neck and shoulder tension.

By balancing the Liver during Spring, we can begin to live in tune with the seasons, so we will be healthy for Summer and the year ahead.

7 simple strategies to start harmonizing and supporting your Liver:

  1. Increase consumption of bitter leafy greens (spinach, dandelion greens).
  2. Add sour flavors to stimulate Liver activity (such as lemon, vinegar).
  3. Eat blood building foods to support the Liver (beets, kidney beans).
  4. Reduce greasy and heavy foods that can overload the Liver.
  5. Rise early with the sun to harmonize with Spring’s expanding energy.
  6. Try to go to sleep by 10 or 11pm, so that the Liver/Gallbladder system can detoxify properly.
  7. Incorporate gentle exercise into your daily routine to help keep the Qi flowing…
